Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is looking for new on-call firefighters in Cranborne and is holding an event in Verwood on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n
The Fire Station on Station Road will have a \u2018have a go\u2019 event on Wednesday (25th May) between 7pm and 8.30pm, when anyone interested in a fire service career can get hands-on and try some of the activities carried out by firefighters.<\/p>\n
The Cranborne station on Crane Street has opportunities for anyone who could provide availability during the week and\/or at weekends, with flexible contracts on offer for those who work shift systems or have childcare responsibilities.<\/p>\n
On-call firefighters live and\/or work within the local community, and are expected to respond to emergencies during whatever periods of cover have been agreed. When the pager goes off, a firefighter can be called to a wide range of incidents, such as commercial and domestic fires, road traffic collisions, rescues from height or water, animal rescue or flooding.<\/p>\n
In addition, Cranborne is a co-responder station, where firefighters can opt to support the ambulance service by attending medical emergencies ahead of a paramedic arriving.<\/p>\n
The Service\u2019s recruitment team has been out and about locally this week, engaging with the community and encouraging people to consider being an on-call firefighter. <\/p>\n
Group Manager Neil Tidball, the on-call development manager, said: \u201cThe role of a firefighter is very rewarding, and it requires determination, courage, motivation, and a genuine desire to serve the community. Successful candidates will become part of a well-trained workforce, earning additional income, and gaining transferable skills such as first aid, driving qualifications and health & safety knowledge \u2013 which can also benefit them in their primary employment.\u201d<\/p>\n
